Can I confirm if FIR Designer M is required for exporting filters to Lake / IPX?

FIR Designer M can push settings to the Lake XP modules and the older Lake FIR 3-way module. FIR Designer can only push settings to the Lake FIR 3-way modules.

Is it possible to sideload filters (with the re-windowing) to other platforms that don’t support DTP (like Linea Research) or can this only be done via DTP.

You can make IIR+FIR presets for any/all brands. In the case of Linea Research, you’d create the channels for the preset in FIR Designer (or FIR Designer M) then manually copy the IIR filters to System Engineer and export the FIR filters to SFI files (for import into System Engineer).

The DTP windows, for some specific brands, handle brand specific sanity checks and transmission. For example, the Lake DTP window talks over a network to the Lake Controller, the Powersoft DTP window does model checks and exports in Powersoft XML format, the Marani DTP window talks over a network directly to Marani processors…. etc. The sideloading (with rewindowing) is provided in the DTP windows specifically to enable bringing existing FIR filters into those platforms.

If you already have a filter and want to change or rewindow it, start FIR Designer, don’t load any measurement on the import tab, load the existing filter on the Target tab, then use the workflow to design a new filter to match the Target. This will give an effectively identical result to the sideloading/rewindowing..
