What is the best way to optimize crossover region with FIR Designer M?

Dear team! During the tuning flow, the crossover region seems to end up with either peaks or dips in the frequency response as these fall outside of the frequency band of each of the components. I find these hard to get rid of in either the auto mag or IIR tabs. When a frequency band is excluded from each component, the combined frequency response shows a dip. If the frequency band is included in both components, the opposite happens: a peak. What is the best strategy to go about taking into account the crossover filter?
